A Forest That Speaks: Ecology, Immersion and Regeneration in Singapore

Tuesday, 20 October 2026 · 6:30 - 8:30 PM

What can Singapore’s secondary forests tell us about ecological resilience? This session brings together filmmaker and artist-researcher Ella Raidel, and ecologist Shawn Lum to explore Dover Forest West through both immersive media and forest ecology. Ella Raidel and her interdisciplinary team of students and researchers join ecologist Shawn Lum to explore Singapore’s secondary forests through immersive art and ecological science. Drawing on No Path, a 360° VR project set in Dover Forest West, and Shawn’s research on fragmented and regenerating forests, the session asks how these landscapes persist under urban pressure and how we might better understand and value them. Together, the speakers will consider how artistic and scientific approaches can deepen our understanding of secondary forests. This lecture will be moderated by Assoc Prof Laura Miotto.
