Talk: From Drawing to Performance: The Lee Wen Archive by Chương-Đài Võ, Researcher, Asia Art Archive

What is performance art, and why is it important? Using the Lee Wen Archive as a point of departure, this talk gives an introduction to the history of performance art in Singapore and South East Asia. The talk will also introduce Lee Wen’s works, and discuss how his training in drawing and painting laid the foundation for his development as a performance artist.

 

BIOGRAPHY

Chương-Đài Võ (Hong Kong) is a researcher at Asia Art Archive, specializing in modern and contemporary art related to Southeast Asia. Her writing can be found in publications such as AfterallSismographie des luttes (forthcoming), the exhibition catalogue Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned, Taipei Fine Arts Museum’s Modern Quarterly, the anthology Film in Contemporary Southeast Asia, and Journal of Vietnamese Studies. Her research has been supported by Institut national d’histoire de l’art, Mellon Foundation, Asian Cultural Council, Fulbright Program, University of California Pacific Rim Research Program, and National Endowment for the Humanities.

This programme is a collaboration between Asia Art Archive and NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore.
